If you state the case the way you did, it is absurd. If you read the police report and if it actually did take place that way, Gates acted absurdly and deserved what he got and was lucky the charges were dropped.

I think people bring their own biases to this story and accept the facts that support their bias and tend to ignore the facts that don't.

What I find interesting is the lack of corroboration from other sources so far in the reporting by the media. If there were other people outside of Gates' house at the time of his arrest(like the officer's report talks about) it would be interesting to see what their stories sound like. Did the police officer push Gates' buttons or did Gates become unglued on his own? A larger societal question would be does a person's perception of the police allow them to behave in this manner with the police and will this allow the people who actually commit the crimes in this country another excuse to behave badly when it comes to the police?
