58 is not elderly. Perhaps if one considers that a cop has a gun, a stressful job and could be unstable it would be very wise to not be difficult. In fact all encounters I have had with police have been handled with courtesy. The golden rule usually works. Sorry I dont have any proof to support my belief that any person following a cop outside while continuing to berate him in a loud manner would be arrested and prosecuted. Of course in most cases you might find the arrest not too gentle either.
