Well they seem to be recognizing the problem but 400IU's a day isn't going to treat it.

An outstanding piece of work. The tape is easy enough to watch in segments. Everyone should get everyone they care about to watch it.

I like the idea of a war against sugar.

I also got the impression that whole grains may not be that bad after all-at least when compared to sucrose and fructose.

Again everybody here keeps attacking the medical profession, the pharmaceutical companies and the the hospitals. IMO the attacks I read here are very unbalanced and ignore the fact that they do much more good than harm under very difficult conditions.

My enemy remains those companies that are foisting all this fructose and sucrose on us.

One minor point when he talks about the workers in the sugar cane plantations living longer than the executives-presumably because the workers were eating the cane itself with fiber. (I imagine they also get significantly more exercise in their daily lives.)

When I passed through some sugar cane plantations years ago, it seemed that everyone was missing their two front teeth. That fiber apparently doesn't protect against tooth decay.

The more I think about that presentation on fructose/sucrose the more important I think it is. I wish someone would make a formal transcript with the accompanying slide illustrations. I may even try and listen to it again. There certainly was a lot of great material there.

I would also like to hear more of the guy's ideas especially as to what he thinks is a good fat and a bad fat and what exactly is a bad carbohydrate (besides fructose and sucrose). He even said something about good and bad proteins.

I was thinking that the main thing wrong with bread could be that it contains fructose not that it contains wheat per say.

Wheat is a starch and so it should be converted to glucose which should not be nearly as harmful as fructose or sucrose.

Also he said something about fructose not stimulating insulin and that being harmful-kind of like saying that the concept of the GI (glycemic index) may need to be altered.

Also I think he mentioned some direct beneficial effects of fiber in ameliorating the effects of fructose.

So this would be another reason that eating a piece of fruit is OK while drinking fruit juice is definitely not. The most obvious reason is pure quantity. When you drink a glass of fruit juice it contains the juice and fructose of maybe 6 pieces of fruit. And how often to you eat 6 apples or oranges at one sitting?

I guess I will have to take another listen-maybe in the late afternoon today.

Another salient and sobering (so to speak) point was that alcohol has all the toxic effects of fructose plus several others.
