>>Whatever form the Health care reform takes, after many compromises, I'm confident it will be an improvement over what we have now. Doing nothing is mot an option.

Fateful words... replace "health care reform" with "Patriot Act", "campaign finance reform", "War on Terror", "bankruptcy reform", "No Child Left Behind", "Stimulus Package", "TARP", etc. The fact is, our rulers only improve things unintentionally and by happenstance. The odds are far greater that they will screw things up for everyone even more. We would truly be better off being ruled by a room of monkeys making "decisions" by throwing their effluent at a dartboard.

You mean it doesn't really matter what's done so long as it's *something*?

That's the logic used in the 8.5 trillion dollars of WS bailouts and backstops. That's the logic used that now has me not only subsidizing GM, but helping people buy their cars, too.

Etc.

in the late 70's a friend of mine was practicing medicine in some 3rd world country in s america. i was amazed listening to how he was able to treat patients w such limited resources. what i remember most was his response to one of my questions. i asked him " w/o the availability of general anesthesia, how were you able to treat an acute appendicitis", his response "that's easy, in (i forgot what country) that's a terminal illness."
