You get it plus the mfg rebate. $8K to $9K off a ~$20K vehicle is a pretty compelling deal.

I say just f*ck it and have the government buy everyone a car.

That ought to really stimulate the economy.

If you have a clunker worth more than the clunker rebate then you get the same rebate, which is no different than rebates before. Only Chrysler had the $4,500 clunker rebate on top and the only cars that were eligible were Sebrings and Avengers. The Chrysler 300 and Challenger and Charger small V6 missed by 1 MPG. They would have to give me the car for free plus $5000 for me to take an Avenger or even a Sebring off their hands.
