" But is it a meaningful measure?" I will grant you there are confounding factors. However, most of your attempts to show it have been things that can be proven not to have the effect you postulate. This is yet another example of trying to defeat an argument by hand-waving. Sure, those things could skew the numbers. But most of the ones you have thrown out there don't stand up to analysis. So I am even more inclined to go with it as a measure than I was before you started trying to shoot it down. Show me numbers, not hand-waving, what-ifs and might-have-beens. You know, actual metrics.
