Has any conservative made any serious proposals for reform? Or do you think the current system is just wonderful??

I'm guessing you're self-employed...no one would keep you on the payroll very since your cynical about everything and constructive about nothing......You would be a hindrance to the progress of any organization.

"b) How can any effort to control health care costs be taken seriously without the slightest tort reform"

Well, tort reform won't happen without universal coverage. If we had universal coverage, then the pressure to allow rewards to cover lifetime care would decrease. And lifetime care includes an unknown inflation rate. So the tendency for any jury will be to err on the conservative side.

This is reality. The majority of malpractice suits get thrown out. The few that make the cut wind up being large because the victim is looking at a lifetime of care. Which, assuming that insurance won't cover pre-existing conditions, can be pretty high. So the awarded figures tend to be high. Which pushes up malpractice insurance and...

Universal care is the best solution. That, and the AMA shedding bad docs instead of moving them to other states, will make tort reform a no-brainer. Universal care would mean those who suffer because of honest mistakes or the Will of God can get care and the bad docs get flushed out instead of moved means we can tolerate the noise. The present system means we either accept being destroyed or going to court as the only option.
