One area of technology is exploding which will only have a little to do with silicon - OLEDS, organic light emitting diodes.

The problems for displays are being solved, and this will make display potential much less cheaper then LEDs, which considerably lower capital costs - PC board technology and high end printing instead of semiconductor capital equipment.

This would make the transition to OLEDs very quick, 3-4 years to go from 5% to 80%, with lower prices expanding the market, so that many people will have multiple screens on their computers for studying physics and the stock market (not for playing games, no) Also multiple Kindle like devices.

The other BIG OLED market will be lighting - cheaper than LED lamps, no mercury like CCFLs.

There is a potential for great energy savings.

It's polymer chemistry - plastics.

When the Lehman BK hit, it sent shock waves all through world trade, and it hit Silicon Valley very hard.
