If I were to take a guess, the wingnuts have been using the Petermann Glacier as a counter-example to global warming. And that was based on either old information or a study that got it wrong. Given the landscape of the glacier, I am guessing the former. It very well could have been that 5 or 10 years ago, Petermann was not melting nearly as fast. But, it started calving big icebergs and that accelerated the ice flow. Which is the problem when you cherry pick your data. When conditions change, your "killer" argument winds up being the other guy's proof. I dunno. I have been reading about global warming for more than 3 decades. It is not like it is something new that Gore dreamed up.
