BC, My mother was in exactly the same situation at the same time. Baylor Hospital in Dallas (the preferred provider of her private insurance plan) told her she had NO chance of surviving a liver transplant and took her off their list. Mickey got a liver so the docs could get a lot of publicity. It turned out the quacks had missed the fact that his liver was totally devoured by cancer and he lived about 3 months after his transplant.

My Mom got a second opinion at Hermann Hospital in Houston. She turned 65, got on Medicare and got her new transplant (and new Kidney, too). The doctors at Hermann told her she should have 5 or 10 good years left. It will be 14 years on Halloween.
