When the truth is not sensational, it's easy for the carnival barkers to push it aside to lure more suckers into their tent. That pretty much sums up the "healthcare debate" nowadays.

Truth aside, Bob, the problem is, as I see it, is that Republicans are culturally opposed to poor people.

They generally have no problems with government subsidies or aid to going concerns (peanut farmers, ethanol makers, cheese producers, dairy farmers, giving Insurance Companies a huge bonanza by structuring Medicare so that purchases of "Supplementals" is required, huge tax write offs to the oil & gas industry); but let the Government try to give one durned nickle to some down and outer and you have transgressed on the Republican way of life--and that's the cotton pickin truth--more or less.

yeah no wonder about a lot of things...anal probing by aliens, numerous funky religious beliefs, ghosts, inability to rank fears by their actual risk of happening, all sorts of things. Wow indeed. People are stupid- we probably are doomed.

It turns out more secular countries appear to be doing better. There's an article on that in Newsweek- of course that confirms one of my biases, so I've no idea if it's actually "true"- but surveys certainly show our country has a lot of dolts in it, and they believe some pretty freaky shit.
