Typo. That was "medical" care.

Health care isn't cheap, and the best health care in the world surely isn't.

It is interesting, however, that Americans still spend about the same percentage of income on basic needs (food, shelter, medical, etc.) as they did 40 years ago.

The simple truth is priorities change over time. Today, medicine is able to keep us alive longer than ever before, and we [Americans] want to stay alive as long as we can. Obviously, health care that can prolong life as ours does is going to cost more.

I just don't begrudge the health care system one nickel of what it costs. Every day it seems like I hear of another friend or family member who has been saved by it (when only a decade or two ago, they likely wouldn't have made it).
