Whether THAT would have brought us to a depression? Not everyone agrees as you suggest. Wasn't just banks. Car companies, including Ford, were going under. The insurance industry was dead. A depression was certain... the economy was still coasting but the engine was dead and the economy would have rolled to a complete stop very quickly. BTW TARP was passed by the Dem congress. That was when Bush was in hiding. And the Obama team implemented it... in a totally different way than first intended. The Dems get ALL the credit.
