I often feel a bit out of step because I'm quite comfortable owning things that are old, while I get the impression that for many people the mere fact that something is new makes it better and more desirable. Unlike your car, my bike definitely shows its age, as a result of misadventures that befell it before I got it.

My partner (wife, actually) likes to cook, and many times when I've suggested going out to eat she's said she'd rather make something. Eating out is often rather disappointing.
