canoe.com

And focusing on the suite are there any techie types out there that can help a non techie type like me. Yesterday while working with my WP6 (is there any other ) & sending to the printer my program crashed.
When I tried to start it up again I got the mesage; unable to run
C:\office\shared\WPC20|MFWIN20.EXE /1-US /#, could not initialize.
I tried reloading WP6 a number of times ( erasing the old program each time) reloaded windows 3.1 thinking that might be the problem. All to no avail. Any help would be appreciated ( yes I am backed up so I can reformat if need be, & everything else works fine) Thanks again!!

Hi Leo. For those who know both of these threads (especially the NOVL thread <groan>), like I told Vanni ---- "I know the pain <s>, and these threads are like mirrors -- and like Rich Young says -- both of these companies are cut from the same cloth -- I believe it".

>> How bad does Novell want out of this dog? They still have 9,000,000 shares left after the 1,000,000 they're selling now. <<

Well Leo, besides Novell's inability to a) respond to market shifts, b) react to competitors, c) totally mismanage a once well-run monopoly, which when it was, "that" was a "no-brainer" to run, unlike now when "management" (read: a BOD) counts and can't deliver, and, d) a multitude of monmumental missteps ------ they can't even get a stock sale right <grin>. Sorta like the NOVL investors (mee too!) you know, buy high, sell low <G>. What a bunch of turkeys. They can't even get "their investments" right!

Here's some stats:

"NOVL's worth in Corel at time of WordPerfect transaction was $155 million. Today it is just under $48 million. A loss of over $100 million in less than a year. Oh well...whats $100 million to NOVL. I am sure as it is pennies to MSFT, the same must hold for NOVL...after all, it is a big, big company or at least thats what the chief tells
us."

They want out NOW because they are backed into a corner (just like Corel) ... and they are doing everything in their power to not chip into that 1B in reserve. I'm looking for "one more cooking the books" next month when Q4 gets announced, and then I'm out. I think the "ally" posture has been somewhat strained over the last few months.

Now, I don't want to take up the bandwidth for the Corel investors, but Novell's ahem... interest in Corel has an impact on "both" companies.

FWIW. I'm getting some final numbers for me anyway on a tax loss sale of the balance of my NOVL. I can't wait around any longer, and I wish all the best to the Corel investors also --- but I truly wish I could be more optimistic about the fate of this company also.

Regards,

Joe...

PS: Oh yeah -- for all you NASDAQ sneaks, and legal jerks looking to make a cheap buck --- ALL OF THE STUFF IN THIS POST IS MY OPINION ONLY --- AND FURTHERMORE YOU HAVEN'T THE SLIGHTEST IDEA WHO IS WRITING THIS ANYWAY!!! <GGG>

Leo, Some thoughts on the status of the present "value play" on COSFF.

1. For the first year after the WP acquisition and the share price stabilized around $8 US, I felt the stock undervalued based on the necessary time for the new combination to solidify and then pick up steam. From the financial statements it appeared that WordPerfect was selling. I felt that once the kinks of the combination were worked out and the Suite assimilated under the Corel umbrella (balloon), that credibility and sales would increase and thereby absorb some of the evident revenue overstatements. I also felt that Corel needed some time to figure out how best to market the Suite. I waited too long.

2. After the trading was halted two weeks before the scheduled earnings announcement in September and the bombshell was dropped on the severity of the revenue overstatements, the stock fell to $6. At that time I figured that Q4 would reflect better revenues based on the accounting changes. At this time I believed Corel products including the Suite were still selling and that the stock was undervalued.

3. On 9/24 when Corel formally announced earnings, and then dropped the second bombshell about Q4 losses, it was evident that the company was overvalued. Apparently the market agreed as the stock leveled off at $4 for a few weeks.

4. Corel can blame the skittish market activity this week for the lack of enthusiasm generated by the VNC preveiw, but the fact is that world may not yet be ready to embrace it NC just yet. The stock is now at $3, its Halloween, and Vanni (the prophet) deserves credit for his Perfect Prediction. Truly "haunting." Bearded One had it right in August. Corel has simply failed to FOCUS where money could be made.

So now, today, and in the near future, the stock is likely to hit $2 and possibly below. So what is the prospect for recovery? Corel Corporation, in some form will survive, and the stock someday will rise, thus making a value play at $2 that will payoff in the long run. But Warren Buffet's statement about "cockroaches in the kitchen" is correct. Of course Mr. Buffet is reffering to the problems plaguing a company are generated by management, and until management regains control and eradicates the problems, the share price will suffer.

With the "three ring circus" being acted out in Ottawa, Corel will only be a value play if a complete overhaul of management, or a takeover itself is brought about. It will then take some time to see things head back up.

Yes, COSFF is a value at $2 if one is willing to hold it for a couple of years. Of course, in the event of a takeover, who knows for sure?
