Leave people to fight their own fires, [or hire a fire service to do it for them], but leave them alone to cut down all the trees they like on their own property. Road maintenance would be done by the road owners.

This is not far from the way it is where I live (in the county). We belong to a rural volunteer fire department co-op (the fire station is within 1 minute from our house) and if we want something fixed -- road, drainage, whatever -- we pay for it ourselves.

Just the way I like it. If only I could get government out of my pocketbook (unfortunately, even if you provide your own services, they keep collecting the taxes!).

RW tries to claim we all depend on government, and yes, I depend on it for national defense and certain other things government is the only possibility for. But you really cannot even count on them for THAT anymore (apparently, the Obama government thinks the best defense is an apology for being such a belligerent nation).

Stop lights are not needed, just "give way here" lights meaning make sure you don't crash into the other traffic which has right of way. Stop signs could be taken down too and made into give way signs with one road having right of way, or put in a roundabout. There are not really any meaningful speed limits - going around corners, the only speed limit is "make sure you don't crash". So do away with speed limits. Build traps in roads so that dangerous drivers who are out of control crash into them and use their body parts [sold at auction] to help others.

Who is going to put in the "give way here" lights, the "give way signs" replacing stop signs, the roundabouts, the "traps in roads"? Sounds like a major project, might have to raise taxes.

The country you describe already exists. It's called Haiti. Few government services at all. And the citizens are thriving. Give it a try Maurice.
