I don't think it really mattered that the girls stood on North Korean soil for even a minute. Just being there is a risk they were willing to take, at least at the time. I see it as a stupid risk that would not have enhanced their story. Is it worth it in order to get stories of human trafficking and human rights violations in the area? You can decide for yourself, but know that to most Koreans, this is an issue really dear to their hearts. You might see their kidnapping (and yes, I'm using the word "kidnapping" on purpose) as a result of their naivety, and I wouldn't be able to argue against that. Frankly, a lot of federal resources were put into play when there are lot more important things happening in the world than the plight of these two Americans. I felt even more strongly about the guy in Burma. We should have left him to rot in Burma for his stupid behavior. Sometimes I think Americans believe everything is a Hollywood movie and will end well in the end. But more importantly, I think this is real evidence of how bad things really are in North Korea, how evil personality cults take a toll on millions of Asians in the area, and how the so-called "superpowers" involved in the region are powerless to do anything about it. Yes, but did you need to see what happened to these women to know how bad it is in NK. I know I didn't.
