Re: "I'm talking of close air bombing in support of ground action." As you know, there are no American troops on the ground in Pakistan. (Pakistan won't allow it.) Thus no 'close air support' for non-present American troops there. Still... it would seem to be the height of stupidity to allow Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces to continue receiving resupply, sanctuary, and succor just a few yards or miles across the border from our troops in Afghanistan. That would be (and was for most of the war) a recipe for 'impossible to win'.
