<<<It has become clear the American people do not want to be taken there, particularly with respect to their health care. I do not believe there has been issue in my lifetime where anything approaching the "town hall" meetings has occurred on a nationwide basis.>>>

It is clear that America is divided. It is also clear that the founding fathers knew this stuff was coming and they designed a system with checks, balances and elections to ensure "governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed".

We just had an election less than a year ago. People who are unhappy about this have a chance to change things at the ballot box in 2010 and 2012. The system was designed that way.

It has become clear the American people do not want to be taken there, particularly with respect to their health care.

I caught a bit of Joe Scarborough the other day. He offered an anecdote from his days in Congress. A colleague, don't recall who, advised him never to stand and claim to speak for the American people and he agreed. I think they are both right.
