At the moment, at least at the presidential level, this would only help the (D)'s - too many people want to flee the (R) party.

I think any viable third party needs to grow from regional bases ( with reps and Senators ) to a national level. Only challenge for the presidency once they have some reps and Senators.


I disagree. I think top down. Somebody that is respected on both side like Colin Powell could start the ball rolling. Other moderates join in, and some folks with big $'s, maybe Gates and/or Buffet give some big contributions to get the ball rolling.

If you get 10 guys elected to the Senate for instance they would hold the balance of power. Both sides would have to come to them hat in hand.... and they could sort of be the arbiters of "truth" (FWIW).
