Hawk, we have to make stuff. you can't have 100 million designers. it just doesn't work that way.

productive capacity is the life blood of this nation (NOT CREDIT!) and this nation will go as our productive capacity goes.

yes, that includes actually making things!

we've off shored much of this capacity and we are finding out we will miss it very much.

It seems to me that our society has changed from one that rewards productive effort to one that rewards speculation. I suppose that is inevitable if you have fractional reserve banking system.

I think the reserve system may have actually created and aided our competition. Without the excess money that was sloshing around, which was created by the Fed, would China have been able to totally modernize its economy in such a short period of time? I have never read any analysis along these lines and I certainly lack the expetrise to explain it, but I think there is something to it.

What we need is a new technological front where we're ahead of the rest of the world Unfortunately more newer and better things are taking less and less folks to design and build.. Many folks are going to have to realise that the standard of living was artificially high.. it's gone (IMVHO :O) It's always about the people.. demographics.. technological improvement are a double edged sword..
