jg: <<Let me also state that I choose not to have the luxury of being
a long term holder. My positions are based on fundamental
analysis with long term ideas, but are re-evaluated against
other opportunities on about a 3 month horizon.>>

I like this approach, perhaps because it's similar to what I do. ; )
Hard to beat keeping your options open.

I am not bullish on APM also. I made some money this summer when
the stock moved from 25 to about 35. APM now is enjoying
the tax loss carry forward and pay very little tax. When APM uses
up the credit, the reported earning will go down. The competition
for MR head is rough. SEG, IBM, RDRT, etc. I believed in the last
SEG conference call, they mentioned that there are plenty supply
for MR head. IBM announced a 3GB/platter disk
drive. That means that the APM MR heads used in WDC mobile drive is
not the technology leader. Given the higher
tax rate in the near future, the competition on MR head is much stronger than TFI head, and the MR head that they are producing is not the technology leader, imho it make predicting the eps very difficult.
It is very hard to make a bullish case for APM.
