One thing for sure is on the rise. People that spout "conspiracy theory" anytime the truth is something they refuse to confront.

That trend has been going on since the 60's.

Actually it corresponds to the politicalization of science. The current nonsense re global warming being the latest example. It is possible to argue either side of the issue and be intellectually honest. It is impossible to say there is a consensus,or that it is proven science and be intellectually honest.

How many times do we hear groups of scientists who are really just fronts for a particular political point of view issuing statements that we are supposed to accept as true without any examination, because they are scientists.

It has reached the point where if the science involves the environment, national defense, or right to life issues, and now global warming, it is impossible to determine the truth.

Then we have the junk science that comes out of our courts. Things like the twinkie defense. If science is not respected it is because too many scientists are dishonest and/or political.

>Respect for science seems to be at a low ebb in the US. This trend correlates closely with the rise in fundamentalist religion and rise in support for paranoid conspiracy theories.

Late reply due to taking a long weekend off from the computer.

I strongly agree. I attended a fundamentalist church run school for 12 years and was taught the earth was 7,000 years
old, Noah couldn't take the dinosaurs on the ark because they were an amalgamation of mixed breeds, and masturbation
causes insanity. (Maybe they had a point on this last one, LOL)
