lj, i agree that it corresponds to "the politicalization of science." and, yes, there is a polarization of politicized scientists into camps on the left and the right. most of these are housed in think tanks. if one googles or otherwise traces the author of a scientific study, the think tank and its bias can usually be uncovered. this is often not identified by media, however.

i am not, yet, a nihilist, and don't conclude that "it is impossible to determine the truth." imo, determining truth in science is a return to science, an escape from media's sound bites. scientific truth is best described in academic, peer-reviewed journals.

the discrediting of science and scientific research is a political victory. once Everyman believes "there is no scientific truth" (objectivity), political debate and techniques of persuasion (subjectivity) rule the roost; science becomes part of the margin.

please excuse me as pedant...journals can be separated into those that are peer-reviewed and those that are not peer-reviewed. peer-reviewed journals are directed and screened by academic experts. "Peer-review" is a process in which academic experts (peers) review submissions to assure research or articles are legitimate contributions prior to inclusion.

those that are not peer-reviewed are likely to be driven by think tanks with a specific political motive.
