<<< Most of what I'm saying is hardly theoretical - it's based on a lifetime of experience. After decades of watching - or one may say, surviving - the way government runs healthcare, I have zero doubts that they'll make a mess.>>>

In many ways I agree with you in that we have to limit government and make sure they do not overdo what is necessary. I respect your opinions based on your real world experiences. My concern is about getting the right balance. It is a delicate balance that we have to achieve.

For many on the right, "It’s also a matter of vested ideas. For three decades the dominant political ideology in America has extolled private enterprise and denigrated government," but there are problems that can only be addressed through government action. Health care in the US and climate control in the world have reached alarming tipping points. Doing nothing is not tenable. These problems can not be left to market forces. We have to be pragmatic and smart about how we solve those problems. We have to be able to consider solutions that have not been tried before.
