Richard,
We were talking about his official downgrade and the reasons for it.

Before the earnings and after his downgrade and his speculation about wether or not Intel would meeting estimates (which by the way was made by many analysts) Intel was trading at about 93-97.

Re -- As for the other items he did not know about, they are either not materially important (slightly up revenues vs. flat revenues) or unforseeable (Asian crisis). Even without the Asian crisis, INTC would be trading in the low 80s.

The main reason for Intel trading in low 80's was Intel's forecast of Q4 revenues being slightly up. Not Kurlack . I suggest you get your facts straight, before you defend him. He is supposed to know about the overall industry trends. He does not.

Richard,

AMD could reduce INTC's profits by fielding some semblance of .25um competition.

All of the Intel price cuts are voluntary. The reduction of profits is self inflicted. So far, it has nothing to do with competition forcing Intel to do anything.

The competition (AMD/Cyrix/IDT) producing all they can, produced less than 3 million chips. Without Intel price cuts, and with ability to charge a little more, they would still have produce less than 3 million chips.

It may have to do with Intel trying to maintain it's monopoly position in the market. If you are long term Intel investor, you should cheer.
Your earnings are being used to crush competition now for promise of charging monopoly prices and higher profits tomorrow. (Assuming the strategy will work)

Joe
