That brought a smile. We were married while I was still in the Marine Corps. I was making about $85 per month and they gave Betty what they called a "Queen Allowance" of about that same amount. We shopped at the base PX and lived on Kraft Macaroni dinners which we bot for 7 cents a box. Once in a while we'd also share a can of Campbell's soup, with the macaroni. Treats were rare... very rare. We would often look back on those days when we sat down to a T-bone steak.
