To: Smiling Bob who wrote (223260 ) 10/2/2009 1:13:42 PM From: Skeeter Bug Read Replies (4) | Respond to of 306849 actually, the most destructive force on the planet is human greed and selfishness (failing to adhere to the main point of the bible). this is an important distinction - religion isn't the cause, but the selfishness of the people is the cause. the use of religion is merely a tool used to express that greed and selfishness. just like government. just like corporations. etc... the main message of the bible isn't a fable - but an enduring truth. i agree that religion has been a favorite tool of these people. the bible *clearly* states that the "many" are deceived by those who come in christ's name and say that jesus is christ (ie, self proclaimed christians). the fact this is true is confirmation that statement wasn't a fable, but a truth. there is not a single church organization that i have found that is worth supporting. an almost universal teaching among these groups is that god is a sadist, which is completely contrary to the bible teaching. the wages of sin is death, not eternal torture in hell fire. anyone who understands god's nature would never tarnish his character in that way (and no, nobody will be sentenced to eternal death in ignorance - ezekiel's dry bones prophecy makes clear that there is physical resurrection where god clearly identifies himself and his ways of caring for others equal to oneself). the second problem is that the organizations invariably get valued above the people (the people in power work to increase their wealth, influence and power). btw, i believe your conclusion is a reasonable one if one looks at organized religion throughout history and/or gets caught up in the noise of the bible. it has been a train wreck and used to heap heinous evil upon people - a wolf in sheep's clothing, as it were. once you realize the main message of the bible is to care for others equal to oneself and that acting contrary to this law of nature yields pain, suffering, despair and death and then view human history - it makes complete, logical sense. what is amazing is that its simplicity is completely lost on some of the brightest people in the world today.
