Wow, somebody actually "gets it". Nice post! You have demonstrated a remarkably clear understanding of what religion is, an understanding that few people have. If there is a God, he/she/it most certainly is not the sadist the religions make him out to be. There is far too much beauty and harmony in the universe for that to be true.

actually, the most destructive force on the planet is human greed and selfishness One could argue lust is up there, but I'm talking about war and hate. John Lennon had it right. I could find 100 random people/messengers of god with 100 unique interpretations of the bible and every passage within. If the message was so important and intended for all, it should have been written more clearly. Where's the damned editor when you need him? At least the Ten Commandments were short and sweet

One of the most popular stories of the bible is Noah's Ark, which despite its appeal to children, is the tale of a vengeful god who wipes out every living thing on land, except Noah and the ark of animals. Sodom and Gomorrah was a similar tale. Not exactly loving and forgiving. I'd agree that greed and selfishness are largely to blame for human destruction. All religious texts, not just the bible, have been twisted to suit the needs of those who seek to destroy others in the name of religion. .
