Reminds me of when my son was 18 and brought home a black kitten who had just been weaned. Could barely walk and was no bigger than the palm of his hand. "Look, Mom. This cat followed me home. Can I keep her?"

It became my cherished pet for 20 years.

It must have made your MIL just LOL to herself, even if she couldn't do it in front of him, with his story! I know it would have me...I'd be laughing to myself quietly every single time I thought of it!
