Bill Maher crapped all over Polanski and those defending him Friday night. Don't get much more knee-jerk Hollywood lefty than him.

If this guy wasn't famous, these same people would not be defending him. This is not, as some very polarized people would like to say, about liberalism, this is about giving famous people a different rule book from the rest of us. If the man we were talking about was a road worker from Arkansas, no one would care about his sentence- not here and not in Europe. We see such excuses all the time for famous people. It doesn't matter what their political orientation is, their are slavish followers of the famous on both sides of the political spectrum willing to excuse the follies of the folks they admire.
