From the article: "... According to documents posted on Novell's Website, the company will introduce later this year a "service framework" focused on server-based application development in Java.."

"Novell has an opportunity to help Sun build out Java. ... The question is, will Java perform well enough to meet customers needs?"

From the article: "...Nearly seven months behind schedule, Novell is delivering a technology that lets GroupWise customers publish documents on their intranets and the Internet..."

"...Nevertheless, Novell is bullish that WebPublisher will make GroupWise a more appealing groupware solution for IT managers. "We've increased the value of GroupWise by adding Internet publishing without requiring the addition of a new infrastructure," said Eldon Greenwood, director of product management for the Novell application division. "We did delay this product, but we're pleased with the results. We wanted to have automatic HTML conversion..."

Comments: Netscape has already delivered their products that provide for "automatic HTML conversion" called Live Wire which is included in their Enterprise server and FastTrack products.

I did not find anything on BorderManager, so I would have to believe that so far, this application is not the "killer" product that Novell needs to effect a quick turnaround. Perhaps the NDS-NT directory released earlier last month will help keep NetWare subscribers from moving over to NT systems and help slow the NT momentum.
