"Both Intel and TI are making large investments in DUV tools now and in '98. Intel is buying DUV(248nm laser) tools from both Nikon and SVGL because of their extendibility to 0.18æ drawn gate lengths."

This is very bullish information Bob. I know for a fact an analyst with Smith Barney who shorted CYMI and one major reason for him was the fact that Intel was not using CYMI lasers and they were not planning on that. I am very long CYMI (including 15 Nov 30 calls at $2) so I have been reasoning that he must be long, but so far he's winningso your information is great news. Where did you get it from please?

Robert, how many stepper lines are currently in production in the world, do you know? Does anyone know? I was told it was well over 20,000, as high as 40,000. What is the correct number?

Bob, sorry, I've been out of the loop for a little while. The only manufacturer I've seen to publically claim extendibility to .18um is ASM. Best info I have had on Micrascan III is extendibility to .20um - I thought (that is, "surmised") that Intel was interested principally for Micrascan's nice field extendibility and track. Do you have hard info on Nikon and SVG currently claiming .18um ability for their current tools?
