I don't know what is the current Medicare funding. As of a few years ago it was in the vicinity of $700 per beneficiary per month, depending on location. It's not so little money... almost 20K a year for a couple. Much of it ends up getting wasted on "defensive medicine", on compliance with regulations and other nonsense. There are ways to remedy the situation... there is a multitude of good ideas out there... but it seems the real priority is not to improve the system. The real purpose is rather political in nature, I'm afraid.
