MLK was a Republican, but so were almost all blacks of the time.

LBJ purchased the black vote, exchanged for a welfare state and a Great Society.


Debatable according to his own son...in any case, tell me this, would he be one today? And if not, why not?

You've got it backward, LBJ gave up "the solid South" of racists to the (R) party, who gleefully adopted them and then ran race-based campaigns in the south ever since. The white redneck racists FAR outnumbered the "coloreds", and still do.
