Interesting article in WSJ this week pointed out the HK doesn't have a central bank. The currancy is totally on auto pilot ( I didn't absorb the details ). Nobody is making calls in HK because no human makes the decisions, they just follow predefined rules. The article points out that everywhere this currancy scheme has been tried, the local currancy has weathered every attack by speculators. Milton Fredman has been advocating such an arrangement for the US for years.
