I know how much all of you love Dave/Moose. He just reminded me of a poem I wrote for him... and as many poems as I've writ, it is seldom I've writ them 'for' someone... but there is just something about Mooseman. he talked of woods and leaves and sunlight and things that... capture a holler gal's heart. and he talked of... aging and his young days. anyways... he has reminded me of this, and I think if ever I wrote a fine poem, this might be it, and it was only because of who he is... a poet is only as good... as the spirit they express... so, this is the Dave I know... and why inspite of any differences, I hang around and hold him dear... For Dave ~ i turned from the mirror eyes seeing through my window and he sat on the curb observing his shoes with great concentration i wondered at the man his air was of youth yet his hair laced grey in his hand he held a leaf and i watched as he let go of his shoes and observed the color autumn's gift to him and i knew he knew the tree that had granted him this treasure caring hands held it high and the sharp fall sun lit it for me to see a shadow grew close the chill i know so well i held a hand high and held the shadow at bay at least for this moment as the sun turned the man's face to the boy for this day 10/16 jp/alabama
