The four post you made on this topic are pure gold for anyone wanting to get started in this business. I hate I didn't have this type information to share before. I found this very interesting and learned a lot. I had no clue editors were so involved in each book, to the extent you mentioned. I could see the potential for much conflict there, but we can save that topic for another time.

In regards to your first paragraph I would add make sure the ones reading your MS reads a lot of books on their own too. Since most never read anything when they do get hold of a book they are amazed how they get drawn into the story. These people might read a bad book and think its good. An experienced reader can tell the difference.
