I know my son's didn't earn all of those trophies I dumped in the garbage can last month. And I know trophies used to mean something.....now they don't.

Sad!

Not that they weren't top notch athletes, but children didn't get a trophy at the end of every football, baseball, track, basketball, wrestling or soccer season when I was a kid.....now they do.

Again.......sad!

When heavily involved in their schools.....I just remember hearing about, reading about and through studies by the "experts", children were suffering from a lack of confidence. They needed reinforcement in order to feel good about themselves, so they got little gold stars, and blue ribbons, trophies and an extra cookie simply for being alive.

I think guilty parents played a role in that whole scenario, but I don't know that for a fact. Just did a lot of observing.

I soon realized it was a monster in disguise.
