Americans by 51-37 percent in this latest ABC News/Washington Post poll say they'd rather see a plan pass Congress without Republican support, if it includes a public option based on affordability, than with Republican backing but no such element.

That's a significant blow to the Rs. One more notch down the food chain of irrelevancy.

Of course, you know why the Democrats still won't proceed without some Republican support.

When it comes to partisan politics, Americans have a very short-term memory. People who know that and can take advantage of it thrive in politics.

"The Republican Party's difficulties are shown in another result as well; in an early assessment of preference for congressional candidates in 2010, the Democrats lead by 51-39 percent. "

They just haven't understood how out of step they are. The only question now is, WILL they be able to before some other party arises to take their place? How can they become more moderate and still keep their base crazies?

I think Obama should pass the national health care we all want, and screw the (R)'s, the insurance companies and the drug companies. With 51 votes in the Senate if that's all he can get. Even if it makes him a one-termer - but I actually think it would make him a national HERO to the majority of us. It would make him a GREAT president.
