Profits, Even with 2 million processors AMD may not make a profit due to lower ASPs. I would focus more on AMD resolving their yield problems. If they can do that this qtr then their prospects for 98 will look pretty good. As for the current qtr my guess is breakeven but I also think the current qtr does not matter, investors will focus more on the yield situtaion and the prospects for 98.

Dr Profits,

Re: "As far as profitability goes, AMD had $596M in sales in Q3 and lost $30M. That
means the break-even point is somewhere around $625M - $630M."

I don't think you understand that AMD has a yield problem for the K6@233mhz
and they are shipping plenty of 166mhz parts at a loss ... so
they won't "make it up in volume".

Let's look at Q2 ... 350,000 K6's shipped at a slight profit (~+.07)
Let's look at Q3 ... 1,000,000 K6's shipped at a loss (~-.23)
Your prediction for Q4 ... 2,000,000 K6's shipped at a ???

You might want to consider changing your name from "Profits" ... to ... "Losses" !!

Make It So,
Yousef

You're right about the situation of Flash in Europe. AMD and Fujitsu are both on the market here. What's more, they even have one big distributor (EBV Elektronik from Germany) in common.

From what I hear over there, AMD is fighting for every contract in Flash.

Greetings,

Bert
