I'm more concerned about lobbying than I am about guys giving speeches to colleges and business organizations. I think there should be a strict rule that you cannot lobby if you've been a politician, and that you cannot be a politician if you've been a lobbyist. I think the incestuous relationship between those two occupations has done a lot of harm in our country, and cleaning that up would go a long way toward cleaning government up. But I don't think you can restrict people from their speaking and book deals- that seems like too much of a restraint on free speech.

Indeed, Steve.

I'm always intrigued by China. Four people at the top making decisions for everything. Is that a quadumvirate? Is quadumvirate even a word? Whatever.......point is that it seems to work exceedingly well. Fast decision making and efficient execution. No whoring for votes and squandering of precious resources to get them.

Maybe I'm just speaking my age, but I see so much wrong with my country and it mostly seems stuff that is ingrained, systemic, and fearfully permanent.
