I'm buying a SPOT device. Plan to wear it on my left forearm when I'm riding. That way, if I'm separated from my bike, I'll have it.

When I wrecked a year ago Memorial Day weekend, after I got my wind back and made sure all the appendages worked, I got up, went to the bike and turned off the key. Then made it up to the roadside. Someone came along who called 911 (I had my cell and had called a friend instead). Only later did I find out I had 5 broken ribs, a broken clavicle and nearly punctured a lung.

I'd have to be seriously immobilized before I pushed the 911 button on the SPOT.
