Sadly, it's nothing new. A hundred years ago we got the Wobblies. They weren't a political party, but they had plenty of effect. The industrial machine sort of created them by abusing their employees. If industry had treated its employees well, it might never have gotten the labor movement started.

The IWW was founded in Chicago in June 1905 at a convention of two hundred socialists, anarchists, and radical trade unionists from all over the United States (mainly the Western Federation of Miners) who were opposed to the policies of the American Federation of Labor (AFL).

About the same time the former governor of Idaho was assassinated. This was an international sensation that deeply involved some of the most famous names of the time, including Theodore Roosevelt and Clarence Darrow.

Frank Steunenberg (August 8, 1861 – December 30, 1905) was the fourth Governor of the State of Idaho, serving from 1897 until 1901. He is perhaps best known for his 1905 assassination by one-time union member Harry Orchard, who also admitted to being a paid informant for the Cripple Creek, Colorado, Mine Owners' Association.
