Rock sampling, grid soil sampling, prospecting and geologic mapping of the newly discovered Al Hariqah prospect (see news in Stockwatch September 17 1997), has outlined a north-northwest trending zone of altered, silicified continuously gold mineralized granitic rock. To date, the zone has been continuously traced over a strike length of 1700m and over an apparent width of 25m to 125m (averaging about 50m). Gold (Au) mineralization is commonly associated with the following: sheeted quartz veins, dipping at shallow 10 degree - 150 degree angles to the east; shear zones; and stock works in granitic rocks in contact with potentially mineralized Precambrian metasediments and metavolcanics. At least nineteen showings (occurrences) of visible gold occur in this zone. Where visible gold occurs, it is easily seen in limonitic masses below 10-20cm thick sheeted quartz veins. Fresh exposures have 10cm masses of galena and arsenopyrite below the veins. To date, fifty composite rock and grab samples collected from the zone have shown results from nil to 78 g/t (2.27 oz/t) Au by the Bondar-Clegg laboratory in Vancouver. Seven samples are over 20 g/t (0.58 oz/t) Au and eight over 3 g/t (0.09 oz/t) Au. Continuous rock chip samples collected from the zone and also analyzed by Bondar-Clegg, to date, are as follows: Apparent Sample No. Au g/t (oz/t) Width (m) ---------- ------------- --------- YRX0782 3.0 (0.09) 6m YRX0786 0.6 (0.02) 5m YRX0790 tr. (tr.) 3m YRX1001 0.2 (0.01) 3m YRX1003 2.1 (0.06) 3.8m YRX1004 13.4 (0.39) 5m YRX1005 47.7 (1.39) 15m YRX1006 2.9 (0.08) 2m YRX1007 0.2 (0.01) 1.5m YRX1014 1.6 (0.05) 0.8m YRX1015 1.0 (0.03) 0.5m YRX1019 15.2 (0.44) 3m A grab sample collected 500 metres along the strike north of the main zone yielded 45.1 g/t (1.32 oz/t) Au and visible gold has been observed on a strike to the south. A second parallel soil grid anomaly five hundred metres long and twenty-five to seventy metres wide has been discovered about 100 metres west of the main gold mineralized zone. Sixteen of the composite soil samples have yielded values of over 1 g/t (0.03 oz/t) Au with two of these over 10 g/t (0.29 oz/t) Au. The latter will require check assay confirmation. Some 20km further to the north in the Bani Rayban area, prospecting has uncovered a copper-gold occurrence. Selected samples from this area contain 0.73%, 2.4%, 0.94%, and 0.36% Cu. Gold values are 0.3 g/t (0.01 oz/t), 0.2 g/t (0.01 oz/t), trace and trace respectively. The area has been covered with a stream sediment survey to ascertain the extent of the prospect. Width of the zone is from 10 to 80 metres. HAJJAH The first results are now available from the follow-up heavy mineral sampling program. The Hajjah area continues to reveal highly anomalous heavy mineral values. A new area south of Hajjah is an area of Proterozoic metasediments out by a swarm of pegmatite dykes. A wadi (dry stream bed) draining into this dyke swarm has a heavy mineral value of 115,000 ppb gold in the coarse (-2.8 + 0.25mm) heavy, non-magnetic fraction. BANI DHU AYB Follow up heavy mineral sampling is now complete upstream of sample Y2361, which in the first pass survey yielded a fine gold value of 548,000 ppb in the -0.1mm heavy, non-magnetic fraction. Fifty-two heavy mineral and forty-nine rock samples have been taken from drainages supplying this anomaly. Base Metal Potential Nearly 2,900 reconnaissance heavy mineral concentrates have recently been analyzed for copper, lead, zinc, silver, molybdenum and nickel from the entire concession area. Even though all samples collected are not yet analyzed, follow-up prospecting has commenced on 23 of the most outstandingly anomalous sample sites. It is anticipated that results will be released in the near future as soon as analysis is complete and data correctly interpreted. In summary, the project geologists, including Peter Ogryzlo and John Churchill who have extensive experience in Nevada working on heap leach mines, believe there is a distinct possibility that the combined high and low grade gold mineralized rock from the main Al Hariqah zone could be open pit heap-leach mined. As a consequence, a drill program to ascertain depth continuity and extend the width of the zone eastward is being planned for early March 1998. In the meantime, follow-up and development work is progressing on many outstandingly anomalous base and precious metal areas, to ensure that drilling can progress on several of the new deposits discovered.
