I saw a segment of "American Greed" that featured a doctor that was SERIALLY defrauding Medicare and performing unecessary surgeries. He was a cancer specialist in Florida, who did MULTIPLE surgeries to remove skin cancer from his patients. One of his patients, a quite elderly gentleman, had had over 125 procedures done.

And you want these same guys to be in charge of paying for EVEN MORE medical procedures?

There are unscrupulous individuals in every profession. If you don't have reasonable anti-fraud procedures in place you're going to be taken advantage of.

The reason Medicare/Medicaid fraud is rampant and private insurance fraud isn't is that private insurance companies are motivated to eliminate it.

When considered in light of the fact that Medicare denies TWICE as many initial claims submissions as private insurance, it tells you just how incompetent your government is at handling the money.

This is precisely the reason most thinking Americans do not want to put government in charge of the health care system.
