Jim,
the one 'bright' spot (not mentioned in that blog) I'd say, is that our foreign trade has dropped from over 80% US weighted not too long ago to just 70% per latest StatsCan numbers.. Now that is partly due to lower NG exports, but also the now infamous (in Canada) Buy America sentiment and lower US consumer spending (a continuing trend.. despite the news hope to the contrary) .. The other side of this may see us more evenly trade distributed like Australia, with no single block much above 25% of total..

Our trade with China is rising (too slowly still for my taste though).. It has been an ongoing theme of mine that we must wean ourselves off the US teat... and now it is becoming critical..

Just one example.. when I got tired of hearing about the loonie @ parr and beyond :O)

Don't let those trade surplus fool you.. Toronto area is painfully broke.. Our transit is crap.. Infrastructure ? All wrong.. Social services have been downloaded to the city.. A lot of that budget surplus was achieved by raping the provinces and municipalities.. You don't think our politicians are smarter than yours do you ? Sure PO helps but it's not enough :o)

Canadian jobs miss today... at least fulltime were up.. waiting for US numbers.. sure hope they are better.. Market is tired of greenshoots... They want beanstalks.. At least if we can tread water.. We are in a 'U' with possibility of W not off the table by a long shot.. my optimistic view :O)
