11/13/09 update
We have a Contest!
GENE"s portfolio has now pulled up to within striking distance of RKRW's portfolio, with less than $8,000 difference between them. Regrettably, however, just as the Contest is getting exciting I'm off on a trip until 12/2 and won't be doing any updates until Friday, 12/5. Sorry. But I will be back with updates for the final innings of the Contest.
Since we've traditionally set the Contest closing date a couple of weeks prior to year-end, I'm assuming this year's closing date will be Friday, 12/19. Hope that's Ok with everyone.
As for this past week, it was another roller-coaster ride but the markets did manage to wind up higher. At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 37.94% CYTD, or Contest Year To Date, (vs. up 34.41% CYTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 13.17% CYTD (vs. up 12.04% CYTD a week ago)and the Contest median up 12.60% CYTD (vs. up 11.67% CYTD a week ago).
As indicated above, GENE's portfolio (charged by ENMD) was the big gainer among the Contest contenders. The week's closing CYTD percentages are: RKRW up 104.63%, GENE up 96.84%, NIGEL up 78.88% and GEORGIA up 75.86%.
At Friday's close, 19 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black and 15 of the 32 were beating the NBI.
Enjoy the weekend biotechies!
