Actually, I do have a lot of respect for advanced degrees in many fields. I did the course work for a Master's in Forestry, but never wrote the thesis. Could have. Chose not to.

I reserve most of my respect for self-taught craftsmanship. You know, like photography, wood working, auto mechanics, plumbing, painting, and such. Real craftsmen who shine over the crowd of what most people can muddle through.

One of the smartest guys I know did not even earn an eighth grade diploma, but he has an honorary PhD, has written books and articles, built many log buildings, and on and on.

Log building craftsmanship -- now there's a field I respect.
