Cymer's information suggests that their information is incorrect. why doesn't this
particular analyst simply believe the industry leader instead of his own data which was
based on material which was wrong to start with?

It sounds like the analyst is playing CYA. Rather than making one forecast, he is hedging by espousing two different forecasts -- his and the company's. After the smoke clears, he can say "I told you so!" People pay for this crap?
